PARENTING MIGHT ALSO BE DISCIPLINING YOURSELF

I just got off the phone with my mother 15 minutes after I left my therapists office. It was perfect timing. Like, to the millisecond. I was just about to download the audible book “Simplicity Parenting” when my mother schooled me in parenting right through the speaker of my cracked iPhone. It was like, “bingo!”. There was simplicity in her words, but a tremendous lesson. And it was like a light bulb went off. And here’s why.

TO THE MOM WHO HASN'T MADE IT TO SPRING BREAK BLISS

It’s spring break. The stubborn sun is starting to show its beautiful face again. The flowers are blooming. The wind is a breezy cool, but subtle. The neighbors are at the lake house. The bestie is headed to London with her tribe. And your co-worker is paddle boarding in Miami with a margarita on the edge of her board. And you? Got a husband out of town, two toddlers with 103 fevers, double ear infections and zero family in town to help. Oh and school is out. And it’s spring break 2019.

THE 40 YEAR OLD MAMA

I like to think of seeing my life like I see great cinema. Frame by frame, moment to moment. And sometimes I like to just stop the tape right in the middle of it all, and observe it in black and white. And sometimes when you stop in the middle of a moment, and you observe, you capture the very reasons of why we are here. In black and white, plain and simple, to love and to exist in love.
